Objective

This assignment is designed to help you familiarize yourself with the key sections of a scientific research article: Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion.  By analyzing an article on your chosen research topic, you will develop a deeper understanding of how scientific research is structured and communicated.

Instructions: Choose one of the research articles you’ve selected and provide a brief response for each of the following sections:

 

  1. Abstract
    1. What is the main goal of the research?
    2. What are the key findings?

 

  1. Introduction
    1. What research question is the study trying to answer?

 

  1. Materials and Methods
    1. What method did the researchers use in this study?

 

  1. Results
    1. What is one key result from the study?
    2. How is the result shown (e.g., graph, table)?

 

  1. Discussion
    1. What do the results mean?

Grading

1 point: article is related to your topic and brought to class on time.

2 points: all questions are answered.

1 point: responses are clear and easy to understand.

1 point: submitted on time.
