Understanding IRB
In your Canvas course, you’ll find a module titled “HHS/ IRB Training and Certification”. The purpose of completing this module is to help you understand how to safely and ethically collect data involving human subjects, in alignment with Institutional Review Board (IRB) standards.
You are expected to complete the IRB module independently. All the information needed to pass the quiz at the end is included within the module, just be sure to work through it in order. As outlined in the Course/Syllabus Quiz, you must earn a score of 100% on the IRB quiz to receive credit for the module and to begin your research.
Please complete the IRB training as soon as possible, but no later than the day of your Plan Presentations, before lab begins. Once your group presents its research plan, you may begin data collection, so this training must be completed beforehand to avoid delaying your group’s progress.
Failure to complete the IRB module by the deadline will result in a point deduction in the course and may put you at risk of being removed from your research group. This requirement is in place to ensure that all students are prepared to begin data collection ethically and without causing delays to their peers.
