POPS Project Categories and Example Topics
As part of this semester-long group project, you will work with up to five classmates to explore a research topic of your choice. You’ll select one topic from the seven research categories listed below. Each category offers a range of possibilities for exploration. To spark your creativity, we have included examples of past students’ projects. While you may choose to build on a previous project, your approach must introduce new methods, variables, and insights.
- Circadian Rhythm
- Example: The Influence of Electronic Device Restriction and Blue Light Reduction on Circadian Rhythm
- Brief: Students tracked sleep quality and quantity while modifying device usage before bedtime.
- Cardiovascular Health

- Nervous System
- Example: The Effects of Caffeine on Short-Term Memory
- Brief: Students analyzed memory test performance after varying caffeine doses.
- Biomolecules and Energetics
- Example: Impact of Fish Consumption on Cardiovascular Health
- Brief: Students examined how weekly fish intake influenced cholesterol and lipid profiles.
- Respiratory System
- Example: Effects of Cold Showers on Blood Oxygenation
- Brief: Students tracked oxygenation changes after gradually increasing exposure to cold water.
